Ready to Ride (RtR)
Ready to Ride is a 3-hour intermediate level class for people who have taken our Adult Learn to Ride class and for people who already know how to ride a bike, but have concerns about riding in the street with traffic. In either case RtR is a perfect fit for people with an interest in using a bicycle for transportation purposes. RtR is designed to help cyclists make the transition from riding on side paths and sidewalks to riding effectively in the street with traffic.
Our experienced instructors teach practical skills and provide tips for making smart decisions to increase the safety of any ride. Before riding in the street students learn and practice basic skills such as scanning, signaling, negotiating with other road users, and making safe lane changes. This course also emphasizes the benefits of following the basic rules of the road to increase predictability and the safety of everyone on the street. The class finishes up with a short group ride where students practice in real-world traffic situations, during the ride instructors will share ways to identify, prevent and avoid common bicycle crashes and collisions.
Class size is limited to 12 students to allow adequate one-on-one instruction. RtR students must be able to proficiently balance, pedal and steer a two wheel bicycle. Sustainable Streets can provide a loaner bike and helmet to students who do not have one. $20
Experienced riders looking for a more advanced instruction should consider taking our Confident City Cycling class.
