Ron Durgin (Executive Director)
rdurgin@sustainablestreets.org Ron Durgin has worked on active transportation programming for over 15 years with a focus on reducing barriers to bicycling thru education, advocacy and accessibility. He currently serves as Executive Director at Sustainable Streets with responsibility for program development, fiscal management, contracting, and outreach. At his day job, Ron owns and operates bike shops located in Santa Monica and Culver City. He is responsible for business development, financial management, daily operations and the delivery of products, programs and services that encourage locals and visitors alike to bicycle for transportation and leisure. Ron’s prior experience includes working in both nonprofit and for-profit sectors honing his skills in fundraising, sales, product development, personnel management, business development, and business operations. His past employment includes Fujifilm USA, Greenpeace USA, and Greenopia, Inc. Ron holds a Master’s in Strategic Leadership Towards Sustainability (MSLS) from Blekinge Institute of Technology in Karlskrona, Sweden. He is a League of American Bicyclists certified League Cycling Instructor (LCI) (2007) and LCI Coach (2013). He is a life member of the League of American Bicyclists, and a regular subscriber to California Bike Coalition, Transportation Alternatives, and the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Planners. |

Rachel Horn (President)
Rachel Horn (she/her) was born and raised in Los Angeles, has never owned a car, and always arrives sweaty. She has ridden more than 12,500 miles across the United States and Mexico facilitating discussions about active transportation and menstrual health. When she's not volunteering at The Bikerowave or riding with the.mixed.race, she's working her day job in environmental health and safety and spending time with her family. LCI #4423 |

Donald Strauss (Treasurer)
Donald Strauss, PhD, M.F.A. is the founding chair of the Urban Sustainability Master of Arts program at Antioch University Los Angeles. The program launched in October 2010 with the intention of training practitioners and activists committed to working at the urban intersections of global environmental change and social, economic, and environmental justice. In March 2015, Donald completed his work in the Environmental Studies program at Antioch University New England (AUNE), where he earned a PhD. His dissertation, titled Ridazz, Wrenches, & Wonks: A Revolution on Two Wheels Rolls Into Los Angeles, is an examination of the spontaneous emergence of a bike culture that has played an unlikely role in the transformation of regional transportation policy and the cultural life of Los Angeles, California. Currently Donald is studying, teaching, and authoring courses in Geographic Information Systems and Spatial Analysis, with an emphasis on mapping for social justice. |

William McCarthy, Ph.D. (Secretary)
Dr. McCarthy is an Adjunct Professor of Health Policy & Management, UCLA Fielding School of Public Health and an Adjunct Professor of Psychology, UCLA Department of Psychology. He has over 40 years experience in the public health sector, including evaluating state and national health policies supportive of a tobacco-free lifestyle, a physically active lifestyle and one featuring a MyPlate-compliant Mesoamerican-heritage diet. He is particularly concerned to reduce health disparities in disadvantaged communities by improving access to environments and resources supportive of increased physical activity and healthy eating. Dr. McCarthy has considerable nonprofit experience as a former board member and officer of the American Cancer Society. Dr. McCarthy provides board governance guidance and contributes his knowledge and experience to the organization in developing effective communication strategies about the health benefits associated with active transportation and in developing intervention strategies to encourage greater population adoption of active transportation. |
